Google Plans Production of Pixel Smartphones and Drones in India

According to sources familiar with the matter, Google, the tech giant, is preparing to commence production of its Pixel smartphones in India. The manufacturing is slated to take place at an existing Foxconn facility located in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. Additionally, Google plans to independently manufacture drones in the same state. India has emerged as a significant destination for multinational companies seeking to diversify their supply chains outside of China, particularly amidst geopolitical tensions with Western countries. Last year, Google announced its intentions to manufacture Pixel smartphones in India, starting with the Pixel 8 model. The company emphasized India's importance as a priority market for Pixel smartphones, aiming to deliver top-notch hardware and built-in software capabilities to consumers across the country. Sources revealed to the BBC that Alphabet's Google and Foxconn have inked a contract for the production of advanced versions of Pixel smartphones at the Tamil Nadu facility, with manufacturing expected to commence within the current calendar year. Foxconn, which currently operates two facilities in Tamil Nadu, including one near Chennai where it assembles Apple's iPhones, will be involved in this collaboration. Google's decision to manufacture Pixel phones in Tamil Nadu follows recent discussions between state officials and company executives. An official statement from the Tamil Nadu government indicates that Google representatives are scheduled to meet with Chief Minister MK Stalin in Chennai in the near future.
